Financial Aid

Donor Sponsored
School Scholarships

The School of Architecture offers financial aid in the form of scholarships, loans, and Veteran’s benefits to students who wish to apply for assistance for our degree-granting programs. The Immersion Experience and our summer programs are not eligible for financial aid.

Scholarships are merit-based, based on curricular, co-curricular and professional achievement. Additional considerations include financial need, gender and race identities, and other affiliations that contribute to a diverse student body.

The School of Architecture has several donor sponsored scholarship opportunities available for our students. Donor sponsored school scholarships are issued on a per-term basis as you progress within the program. Eligibility for scholarships must be re-established in each renewal period and is subject to funding availability, as well as considerations of your financial need and academic progress. All admissions application materials must be on file with the Admissions Office to be considered for any award. Awards are considered in order of application received.

For full consideration of the scholarship(s) listed, all applicants must be sure to reference how they meet the qualifications per the description in the Personal Statement/Essay of their application. Please reference any specific scholarship you wish to focus on and how you feel you meet the award description in your essay.

Financial Aid and Eligibility

We encourage our students to apply for financial aid as early as possible prior to their tuition due date. While we will still receive and process financial aid applications after the posted due date, students are expected to pay tuition in full by the tuition due date and any financial aid award accepted will serve as reimbursement.

How Eligibility is Determined

In order to have your funds available for the beginning of the semester, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible after July 1st of each academic year. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows us to determine eligibility for all federal loans. You can complete the current FAFSA form by clicking here, or downloading the using the myStudentAid app. in the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). When completing the FAFSA, our Federal School Code is: 025332

Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible for federal aid:

Determining Cost of Attendance

The following expenses are included in a student’s budget. Budgets are based on the expenses that the student will incur during his/her enrollment period. The expenses normally included in the student budget are specified by Section 472 of the Higher Education Act.

Institutional Costs

Institutional Costs are items which have a fixed cost and are usually charged by the school to the student.

Non-Institutional Costs

Non-Institutional costs are not set by the school, but are expenses that can be considered when determining eligibility for loans.

Other Allowable Expenses

The following expenses may be approved as additions to your basic student budget. Students must contact the Director of Admissions and request a Budget Increase Form. Budget increases will not be considered without completing the form, and original invoices and receipts or other proof of payment. Budget adjustments based on these expenses will be made only once per academic year and will be met with loan funds.

Loans

Loans are borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest. You are automatically considered for federal loan funds by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form.

Federal Direct Loans

Federal Direct Loans are the most common source of student loan funds available to graduate students seeking a degree. Federal Direct Loans must be repaid with interest. Federal Direct Loans offer deferments of principal payments while a student is in school and allow a six-month grace period after leaving school before repayment begins.

Unsubsidized Federal Student Loans

Graduate students are eligible to apply for Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. With this loan, the student is responsible for interest that accrues throughout the life of the loan. A student may elect to defer interest payments while in school; however, this interest will be added to the principal balance of the loan upon repayment. Therefore, we strongly recommend students pay interest on a quarterly basis to keep your loan debt under control. To learn more about student loans, including interest rates, click here.

Federal Graduate Plus Loans

The Graduate PLUS loan is a loan program for graduate students. Borrowers must not have adverse credit in order to be considered eligible. The student may borrow the full Cost of Attendance minus other forms of financial aid received. To learn more about graduate loans, including interest rates, click here.

Students may apply for deferments or forbearances for Federal loans while enrolled.

Private/Alternative Loans

After you have considered all federal loans, you may also be interested in applying for a private/alternative loan known as an Alternative Educational Loan. A private/alternative loan is a credit-based educational loan. Each individual lender sets terms and conditions, so students should shop wisely for their lender. To assist you in making decisions about which private loan is best for you, visit Credible for private loan rate comparisons. Students unable to qualify on their own may need to obtain a co-borrower/co-signer. Students may borrow up to their Cost of Attendance budget, less any other financial aid funds and resources received.

Compare Private Loans With Credible

Credible is the only student loan comparison tool that enables students and parents to compare unbiased, personalized and prequalified rates with no hidden fees and no impact to their credit. Credible is not a lender or a bank, we simply partner with the top student loan providers to offer a variety of competitive options . When considering a private student loan, it’s important to compare rates, terms and repayment options across multiple lenders to ensure you get a loan that fits your financial situation. Credible is free to use and your information will remain secure. You can find out more about Credible here.
